The site is now closed for restoration work (June 2018) and will remain closed until the completion of work in 2020. You can still visit the Castle shops in the Backfold.

There are no longer any of the shops up on the cobbled area as the site has been closed for restoration work. The Honesty Bookshop on Castle Street, at the bottom of the terraces remains open during construction and books are added weekly to the shelves.

The Thoughtful Gardener
On the Backfold lane that takes you to the centre of  town is James with his delightful range of well-considered plants and gifts for your garden and home. Practical & stylish gifts for gardeners. Aromatherapeutic soaps & botanicals by Castello de Haye. Creative & inspiring work from local artists and artisans. See their website here.

Haystacks Books and Records
George Greenway has now retired, but Haydn from Haystacks has taken over the shop and is selling books, records and CDs from June 2018.
Honesty Bookshop
The refurbished Honesty Bookshop is a delightful outdoor space to read, relax and enjoy the buzz of Hay’s town centre.  The Honesty Bookshop has been a tradition since the 1960’s.  All books are £1.  There is no till; money is simply left in the collecting box.  All proceeds go the restoration of Hay Castle.

Eighteen Rabbit
Andrew and Louise have now moved down to 2 Lion Street in Hay.

Hay Castle is located in the centre of Hay-on-Wye, a lively market town on the border of England and Wales.
